Bornholm
A COASTAL RETREAT ON BORNHOLM
Set along the dramatic northern coastline of Bornholm, this newly built summer house is designed as a quiet extension of its surroundings. Nestled between granite outcrops, windswept pines and the open Baltic Sea, the architecture embraces the island’s raw beauty through a restrained material palette and a deep respect for place.
Constructed in timber and grounded by polished concrete floors, the house balances warmth with permanence. Large sliding doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out, opening onto generous timber terraces with uninterrupted sea views. Throughout the home, natural materials have been chosen for their honesty, durability and ability to develop character over time, creating a home that feels deeply connected to both the landscape and the rhythm of coastal living.
ARCHITECTURE ROOTED IN NATURE
At the heart of the home sits a bespoke Vermland kitchen in natural oiled oak, designed as a place to gather. Combining timeless craftsmanship with quiet functionality, it forms the natural focal point of the living space.
A island with open shelving keeps everyday ceramics within easy reach, while handcrafted Marokk tiles and a minimalist Vermland shelf create a calm, understated backdrop. Fully integrated Gaggenau appliances are seamlessly concealed within the cabinetry, allowing the natural oak to define the space. Every detail has been carefully considered to create a kitchen that feels calm, tactile and enduring.
DESIGNED FORÂ RITUALS
The bathroom features Vermland VOLII bathroom furniture in natural oiled oak. Its open shelving provides practical storage while maintaining the clean, architectural expression that defines the home. Paired with a solid natural stone sink and refined wall-mounted fauct from TONI, the composition celebrates simplicity, craftsmanship and honest materials. Designed with the same attention to proportion and longevity as the kitchen, the bathroom offers a quiet and timeless space where every element has a purpose.
Rather than competing with the dramatic landscape of Bornholm, the architecture is designed to frame it. Expansive glazing captures the changing light across the Baltic Sea, while the restrained palette allows nature to remain the focal point. The result is a home that feels both contemporary and timeless – crafted with care, built to age beautifully, and designed for a slower way of living by the sea.
