THE ART OF PRESERVING CHARACTER
Tucked away among mature gardens and historic villas in Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen, this 1934 residence carries the character of another time.
Originally designed by Danish architect Svend Harboe, the house is defined by its considered proportions, traditional craftsmanship and enduring architectural details. Its renovation introduces contemporary elements with a quiet respect for the original architecture.
Herringbone floors, dark timber frames and softly coloured walls form the backdrop for an interior where contemporary furniture and personal objects bring warmth and individuality. At the centre, a Vermland kitchen introduces a new layer of craftsmanship, designed to feel naturally at home within its historic surroundings.
INSPIRED BY ITS SURROUNDINGS
Throughout the home, colour and material create a subtle connection between the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
Soft sage-green walls echo the garden beyond, while warm oak, natural stone and muted earthy tones bring depth and texture. Original architectural details sit comfortably alongside contemporary additions, creating a quiet balance between old and new.
As daylight moves through the rooms, subtle shifts in colour and shadow reveal the character of the spaces.
THE HEART OF EVERYDAY LIFE
At the centre of the Vermland kitchen, a generous freestanding oak island brings together most of the kitchen’s functions, creating a natural focal point for cooking and gathering.
Designed as a substantial piece of furniture, the island combines carefully balanced proportions with a Taj Mahal stone worktop, subtle brass details and softly rounded corners. Integrated BORA appliances ensure a clean, understated expression.
With generous working surfaces and integrated storage, the island becomes the heart of everyday life, while the surrounding space remains open and uncluttered.
Large windows and glazed doors frame views of the garden, filling the room with natural light and strengthening the connection between inside and out.
A home evolves over time, with new elements and ways of living becoming part of its story.
In Klampenborg, the Vermland kitchen becomes one such layer. Rooted in Danish cabinetmaking traditions and shaped by a contemporary approach to design, it brings together thoughtful construction, functionality and an appreciation for lasting quality.
A quiet addition that respects the past, belongs in the present and is made to live with for years to come.
